What is Kollaboration?
Kollaboration is the largest non-profit Asian Pacific Islander (API) organization and movement that works to bring the API talent into the mainstream entertainment industry, fuelled by the mission statement of “empowerment through entertainment."
Having opened chapters in 14 cities across North America, Kollaboration has included Toronto as its largest annual showcase of talent for Asian Canadians since 2006. It has thus been recognized as "Kollaboration Toronto” and is a registered non-profit. This year, we will be hosting our 8th consecutive show.
So what is Kollaboration Star?
Kollaboration Star is the grand, finale showcase of talent held among the 14 participating cities across North America.
You must first be selected as a finalist for the Kollaboration show hosted at your respective city. Once a winner from each city's show is determined, the individual or group is qualified to enter a round of voting among the cities in its region, and is subsequently picked to represent their city at Kollaboration Star in Los Angeles. The grand prize of Kollaboration Star is $20K this year.
In November of 2012, one of Toronto's winners, Maybe Refuge, was voted as the top seed in its Eastern region and was given the opportunity to perform at Kollaboration Star. Celebrity guest judges included Joe Hahn of Linkin' Park, Danny (Taebin) Im from YG Entertainment's 1TYM and DFLA on Mnet, Yuri Tag from Kaba Modern, etc.
Toronto's own grand prize will be announced at a later date.

Are there any other important dates for me to know?
More will be announced in due time. Make sure to check our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/KollaborationTO) for updates.
Any tips on what I should prepare for the auditions?
• Original types of performances, which could feature anything such as an a cappella group (ex. our 2012 finalist called Intentional Accidentals), unique dance choreography, stand-up comedy, magic tricks/acts, spoken word, bands with varying instruments and vocalists, etc. Be a little creative!
• Covers of songs are acceptable, but it would look favourable if the cover blends different genres (ex. a classical rendition of a mainstream hip hop song, etc.)
• We look for stage presence - engage with the audience, utilize the floor space when necessary, etc.
• Your final performance does not necessarily have to be ready at this point, but you should be preparing for it.
Should I bring anything to the auditions?
Bring either a CD with your song of choice or a USB. We will provide the following: a CD player, grand piano, projector screen, amps, speakers, music stands, and microphones. Bands are required to bring their own equipment and instruments apart from what is stated.
I have other questions. To whom do I address them?
E-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you.
